Dubbed “one of the most commanding solo shows around today,” Kate Huffman’s (Fresh Off the Boat, Castle) shockingly hilarious, brutally honest solo show covers 2 decades of living with an OCD-instilled eating disorder.

Through 18 characters and multi-media effects, Huffman guides us through twenty plus years of OCD, eating disorders, chronic pain, and body dysmorphia, and the toll her strict set of rules and rituals based around numbers and eternal body hatred takes on all areas of her life. Charm, wit, and giddy self-deprecation entice us through the journey of a young girl who stumbles upon a life-long, nihilistic frenemy.

I’M TOO FAT FOR THIS SHOW presents an opportunity for all people with obsessions, neuroticism, or negative self-talk to laugh at themselves.

Directed by Scout Durwood (Mary + Jane).

"One of the rare solo performance shows that deftly balances humor, gravitas, pathos, education, and energy into a soul-baring beautiful performance." -Nerds of Color

"Ruthlessly honest; Huffman exposes literally her innermost core with biting and intelligent humour." -Gia on the Move

"One of the most commanding one-person shows around today."         -Jewish Journal

"By far the most entertaining one person show I have ever seen anywhere anytime." -Santa Monica Observed

"Perfect balance of truth, wit, and humor…poignant."

I’m Too Fat for This Show offers insights into eating disorders and OCD in a way that no other forum can:

  • The actor/writer’s comedic self-awareness and deeply personal storytelling act as tools to create a safe space for audiences to absorb lessons about neuroscience in the developing brain.

  • Laughter and empathy pave the way for a deeper understanding of the physical and emotional side effects that OCD and body dysmorphia create in children and adults.

  • Humanizing these clinical topics encourages audiences to relate to their own neurosis with more compassion and less fear.

  • The show specifically addresses the experience of being a female in American society and how portrayals of women in popular culture affect the brain development of adolescent girls.

  • For this reason, the show serves educational in the fields of women and gender studies, mental health studies, and sociological studies.

  • The presentation of a well-crafted piece of solo playwrighting serves as an educational piece for students of Theatre Arts, as well.
