In addition to the solo show performance of I'M TOO FAT FOR THIS SHOW, I offer a number of workshops that can be done in conjunction with the booking:

1.) CREATING YOUR COMEDY SOLO SHOW -

***for Comedy Schools or Theatre Departments at Universities and Colleges***

For students interested in sketch comedy in general or solo shows in particular, this workshop walks through all stages of developing a show - from beginning character work to production and promotion. Students who wish to will have the chance for personal feedback on something they are currently working on.

"Kate Huffman is truly a light that we need in the entertainment industry. Her show is touching and beautiful, and it made me want to write my own show to share my story. Her solo show workshop helped me think about where to start and how to organize my rambling crazy artist thoughts. I think it's a must-take workshop for anyone that feels their voice needs to be heard but doesn't know how to begin. She teaches not only how to create your own solo show, but also much of her advice can be applied to plays and sketches in general. Overall, I was inspired and motivated and was given the tools I needed to start my process. Kate is a true badass bitch."

    - Jess Ring, improvisor and writer

"Kate's workshop was entertaining and informative. She let us in on her creative process, gave us guidlines for creating our own show, and was a fun, relaxed and thorough teacher. She shared great empathy and support with students who offered very personal stories. I definitely recommend Kate's workshop to anyone interested in creating their own show."

    -  Roy Drew Actor, puppeteer, storyteller and improviser.

"Kate's candidness about the highs and lows of developing ITFFTS made me feel more confident about navigating the emotional highs and lows of working on my own pieces. I left the workshop motivated to write."

    -   Kevin Sullivan

"Kate Huffman’s workshop was truly an inspirational experience.  Kate can tell her story in an inspirational, emotional, creative, intellectual and humorous theatrical performance.  She can then hold her workshop attendees, like me, in total awe.  I have been to many workshops of all kinds, and I can say unequivocally, Kate touched my soul and made a real impact in my life.   You really must attend her workshop.  You will not be disappointed."

   -   Jack B. Levine, Retired, 74 year old, financial executive

"Taking Kate's one-person show workshop after watching her outstanding performance can feel like arriving in your ill-fitting sweatpants to an Olympic gymnastic training. Rest assured, however - although Kate holds herself to a remarkable professional standard, she is warm and welcoming to students of all levels. The class is brisk and you gain a behind-the-curtain look at all the steps that go into preparing a high-quality show, including the business aspects. I've been studying improv and sketch at UCB-NY, the Magnet, and Second City for the past nine years, and found her workshop on a level with my favorite mentors. Highly recommended!"

   -   Kerstin Rao

2.) ELIMINATING SHAME AROUND BODY DYSMORPHIA

This workshop is an open dialogue for students who see the show and wish to continue the conversation about their experiences with the pressing and relevant topics covered in the show (body hatred, OCD, chronic pain, etc.). Excellent for students in Gender Studies, Mental Health Studies, and General Education.

"By the end of the workshop, I felt safe admitting to things I normally keep quiet about thanks to the way Kate ran the workshop."

   -  anonymous student

LEARNING OUTCOME

From the show, students will:

  • gain an understanding of the neuroscience behind body dysmorphia and OCD

  • find empathy for and question their beliefs about eating disorders through the comedic self-awareness of the actor

  • learn to release shame around their own neuroses, obsessions, and/or body issues

  • consider the troubling effects of the portrayal of the female body in media outlets

3.) NAVIGATING THE PROFESSIONAL WORLD OF HOLLYWOOD

For Theatre or Film Departments that wish to educate their students on the reality of the hustle, Huffman has 13 years of experience and has amassed a wealth of information she wishes she had known when she arrived in LA as a precocious 21-year-old.
